Below you will find a number of different abrasive blast cleaning options. The system that will best suit your needs will depend on your application.
Suction Blast: Entry level blasting equipment. Suction blast has a wide range of uses ranging from the home handyman for odd jobs around home to the panel beater that needs to remove small areas of rust from vehicle panels, chassis etc to the a glaziers who etch graphics on to glass. A suction blast system operates using the air travelling through the hand piece to draw the abrasive up to the handpiece. The abrasive is then propelled out with the force of the air behind it. Suction Blast systems can be small hand held units to totally enclosed blast cabinets. Standard Suction Blast systems require 22cfm of air to operate, though with the use of larger air jets used for higher production applications the air consumption increases. Pressure Blast: Pressure Blast systems are the most widely used abrasive blast cleaning systems in use today. These systems range from small units for spot blasting to large bulk blasting units that are capable of running multiple operators. A wide range of abrasives can be used in pressure blast systems. Used correctly these systems can be used for graffiti removal on the most delicate of substrates, (Soft Media Blasting), through to the removal of the toughest coating. Pressure Blast can also be used in the form of a cabinet or up to a large blast room. Pressure Blast operates using a steel pressure vessel filled with abrasive. The pot is pressurised when the control valve, most commonly referred to as the deadman, is activated. A plunger, referred to as a pop up, shoots up and seals the vessel. The pressure in the vessel creates equal pressure between the blastpot and metering valve, allowing the abrasive to flow under gravity to the metering valve, and is then propelled up to and through the nozzle at speeds in excess of 600km/hr (at 100psi). Though these systems use considerably more air than suction blast, the production rate is greatly increased.
